Hurricane Ike

Our Hurricane Fatigue rhetoric has finally kicked in for this season.  The storms have been more frequent, and more impactful in recent times, but nothing that should surprise those who know.  In so many ways, this is simply an opportunity to begin to trust less in things material, and more in things eternal.

I wish the calendar of this storm path was different because I really wanted to ride to Kemah and not be in the cage for this trip.  Time will tell, and hopefully the forced one way traffic  of inland bound highway will not impede our South-bound travels.

Wouldn't it be cool to see this thing [Hurricane Ike] dissipate in the Gulf all on it's own?  Couldn't help but imagine that in the wee hours of this morning as I contemplated the Power of the God of Creation.

Can you buy 1 TARP and send it to Louisiana?

Help is needed along the paths of recent Hurricane Gustav (and others). A Pastor in Baton Rouge has a great action plan and if you can help him, or others - use this strategy to respond to his request, or even use this resource to help others.

You can also connect to Somebody Cares America which is a network of Christian Ministries across the country for ongoing support efforts.

Homosexuality. Do you ever get scared by that word? Be honest … it can be a very scary word for a youth pastor. Not so much in theory because it’s easy to sit around and boisterously talk about homosexuality and how to handle it with other youth pastors. But no, the crippling fear rushes in like a tsunami crushing an unsuspecting village as you stare at someone you have loved and shepherded, their eyes swollen and bloodshot, and they’ve just poured out their deepest and darkest secret to you; they’re gay. And all you can do is try to quickly scrounge up something, anything, that won’t have this beloved youth running out the door for good. [read more on this story]
