Cultural Culinary History
Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in NewYork.
This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico.... But as we know....the great ship did not make it to New York.... The ship hit an iceberg and sank.... and the cargo was forever lost....
The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly a waiting its delivery...was disconsolate at the loss.... Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of mourning which they still observe to this day....
The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th.... and is known....of course....as Sinko de Mayo....

Safe Start!
Let's pray for all the students and faculty & staff of every school to
have a Safe Start for this summer! Many will be taking missions trips
and traveling to visit friends and family. Vacations were not a
staple in my family growing up (Dad & Mom worked really hard!), but
the experiences I had showed me that a time together as a family can
be valuable if we get past the uncomfortable stage. Pray for parents
and their children to enjoy time together this summer. 'nuff said.

Hi Mom & Dad!
I just hung up from talking with my Dad and Mom in San Antonio. (or San Anton if you're a local).
I don't know if you call your parents very often, but I know I could do better! I miss them (only 200 miles seperate us, but it seems like so much more)! I hope this encourages you to write or call them if you are blessed to have communication with either or both of them.
Have a happy!

A Quote regarding Biblical Literacy
"Biblical literacy, though not sufficient, is indispensable. This literacy does not consist of historical, critical knowledge about the Bible. Nor does it consist of theological accounts, couched in nonbiblical language, of the Bible's teachings and meanings. Rather it is the patterns and details of its sagas and stories, its images and symbols, its syntax and grammar, which need to be internalized if one is to imagine and think scripturally.…What is to be promoted are those approaches which increase familiarity with the actual text."

The Nature of Doctrine - by George Lindbeck
Yale theologian, who along with Hans Frei and others, developed post-liberal (some call it postmodern) theology.

Hello Family,I need your help. This summer, I am taking a group on a missions trip to South Africa and Namibia, Africa. In these two countries, we have two families from our congregation serving in these countries. My goal is to take a group of 20 and to say the least, this is a very costly endeavor. Our mission is simply to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ through serving and sharing. Our task are to complete construction on Church facilities in Namabia in addition to teaching and training the local pastors and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This group will also minister alongside Campus Crusade at a local university in South Africa through song and sharing the Gospel. To offset the cost, our church is hosting a benefit concert. This is a special invitation to join us this Sunday at 4pm at Solid Rock Baptist, 6302 Tidwell Rd. Can I count on you to help take the Gospel to the World. In His Service,Vernon Hubbard*
