10/30/04

Well, for a Saturday... it feels like any other day, except it's Saturday! already! This has been a long week with the 2 drug prevention awareness rallies at Austin HS and Alief-Taylor HS. Friday was the fund-raising Training Conference, and now that we have had the opportunity to raise some scholarship funds, hopefully the Gala on Thursday will be a good celebration of the Community Service projects from this last year.

My expectancy for this next week is to be able to have a wonderful Gala, and celebrate the accopmplishments of this last year. I think from Friday on, we will have to form a new outlook for the hope of the next year, and the accomplishments of the new leadership class.

untill next...

Happy 41st Birthday Little Brother

My little brother, Jonathan Wayne, October 18, 1963... he was a cute baby, I wonder what happened.

Sister Bonnie, prayer warrior

Sister Bonnie
Sister Bonnie is from Glad Tidings Assembly where my parents now attend. Pastor Langwell and 'Sister Pastor' from Glad Tidings also came by last night to pray with Dad and give thanks to God for his Grace and Mercy.

Lunch with Aunt Minnie

Aunt Minnie stopped by
Aunt Minnie stopped by just in time to keep Dad company during his LIQUID LUNCH. The most substantial component is 'Nanner' pudding.

Respiratory Exercises with Bessie

Bessie says Breathe Deep
Respiratory - sent Bessie to give Dad his little plastic toy to get his breathing exercises to avoid pneumonia.

Walking Exercises every 2 hours

Each journey starts with one step
Walking up and down the hall is good for Pops!

Grand Central Station!

Well, we are grateful for God's miracles. Bessie from respiratory just came in and had Dad start his breathing exercises. The big concern right now is pneumonia. Dad needs to cough and do deep breathing to avoid any complications.

Everything has happened at one time. Aunt Minnie just came in, Nurse Bruce is moving stuff around, Dad has to take care of some things, the maintenance man is fixing the wallpaper in the room... and my phone cable is about 3 feet long so I'm tethered to the wall right by the I.V. pump. I appreciate the medical profession, but I don't wish a hospital stay on anyone!

[this really makes me appreciate my Friend Rudy Carrasco's blog for his son and family: http://psalm34.blogspot.com ]

i'll be back soon.

This is how long the nights get...

My Gray Braid
My sister figured out a good way to stay awake in the long hours of the night shift by braiding my hair. This is too hard for me to do by myself, but it was fun to have Quality Time with my sis.

Dr. Morris Franklin, M.D.

Sunday, October 17, 2004 10:20 AM

Well, Dr. Morris Franklin is a name I will not soon forget. San Antonio has it's unsung heroes. As a pioneer in laproscopic surgery, Dr. Franklin is sought world-wide to teach the techniques and skills he has developed here in San Antonio. Well, this morning when Dr. Franklin came in the waiting room to talk to mom he said, "This man has been sick for a long time. This did not happen overnight." Dad's high pain threshold kept him from yielding to the messages his body has probably been sending for some time. But today, a few ounces lighter, a little less rocky (attempted gall stones pun), and by the hand of Almighty God he is resting in room 160b of the SouthEast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio Texas (210)297-3060.

Thanks to those of you who were aware and were praying, and thanks to those who love God and pray anyway for God's hand of protection and provision. Gracias a todos quienes estan orando y han estado orando por mi papa y mama. Que Dios les sigue bendiciendo con su Gracia y Bendita Presencia.

En Cristo,

Dad's sitting up just fine.

Ruben is sore, but sitting up.
Successful surgery but his 'pansita' is a little sore. Doc said he had been a sick man for a long time.

To surgery @ 8.30

Mom knew this was serious...

about 29 hours ago, Dad said the words that made Mom know this was serious... "Take me to Hospital!" Dad will not ever ask to go to hospital for casual needs. This had to be serious! Well, it's now diagnosed as gall stones. He's scheduled for surgery this morning sometime after 9am. The hope is for laser process which will only require 4 small stabs in the lower abdomen and some butterfly stitches to close it up. With God's favor, and no duties to serve our fellow man here at the hospital, Dad should be able to go home and rest in his recliner this evening!

Aunt Gussie just called at 7:30 and others have called through the night, including emails that I read this morning. Thank you for what you are doing in joining your faith with ours for believing in the hand of a Mighty God to work in my pop's life.

I love dad, and I appreciate my sister letting me ride along with her last night to come and relieve Mom and Jonathon's vigil.

CrossRoad Youth Prayer Service

What a wonderful night of prayer! God visited the hearts of willing young people who joined in worship and openness to the Holy Spirit of God. It's awesome to see what God is doing in young people today. From leading worship to expounding on God's Word on how to have "Victory in Jesus," this was a wonderful time together with the body of Christ. Hope you are sensing God's leading in your life. Please feel free to comment if you have any prayer requests or anything you would like to contribute.

En Cristo,
RMT

TEEN EVANGELISM EFFECTIVE

Barna study reveals:
Evangelism Is Most Effective Among Kids

October 11, 2004

(Ventura, CA) - A substantial majority of the people who accept Jesus Christ as their savior do so before reaching their 18th birthday. This insight comes from a new research study from The Barna Group, based on interviews with 992 born again Christians nationwide. The survey also revealed that young people respond more positively to different outreach influences than do people who embrace Christ later in life.

Most Christians Were Young When Saved

For years, church leaders have heard the claim that nearly nine out of ten Christians accept Jesus as their savior before the age of 18. If that statistic was accurate in the past, it no longer depicts U.S. society. The current Barna study indicates that nearly half of all Americans who accept Jesus Christ as their savior do so before reaching the age of 13 (43%), and that two out of three born again Christians (64%) made that commitment to Christ before their 18th birthday. One out of eight born again people (13%) made their profession of faith while 18 to 21 years old. Less than one out of every four born again Christians (23%) embraced Christ after their twenty-first birthday. Barna noted that these figures are consistent with similar studies it has conducted during the past twenty years.

Baptismal Service

What a wonderful thing to see as 4 young ladies, 1 young man, 2 women, and a married couple came to be baptized tonight. Pastor Cantu preached in Spanish and English so that the youth would be sure to understand the importance of their action.

Brother Santos was as wonderful as ever with his comments to keep everyone engaged in what was taking place.

Afterwards, several went to IHOP (not International House of Prayer, but the other one) and celebrated together. Now they are members of the church and we can co-labor together. Praise the Lord!

Ropes for Kipp Academy

Well, the kipp academy kids are something else altogether! We had a great day at Terrell doing the Experiential Learning exercises with High and Low ropes exercises. I appreciate 'Bill' and Mustard Seed for inviting us again to take part in this.

Really missed Tony & Luis' help though.
Better get some rest so that we can be ready for Tony's wedding celebration today. Good night.
