Got Grants?

For anyone looking for an online 'refresher' resource, ACF Healthy Marriage Initiative had a dynamic link to a Proposal Writing Short Course. The Administration for Children and Families sends frequent resources. Subscribe to their list - click HERE.

It's Mighty Mouse - First Nations Style!!

WICONI International -

My friend Richard Twiss (Lakota Sioux) has an incredible website with wonderful resources from First Nations authors, composers and artists. I can't resist putting a link to some of the tunes on a CD for children that celebrates the cultural drums/chorus. Great gift ideas for the upcoming Rodeo Season in Houston, but always good all year round. Check out other links for more music & videos.
If you don't have time to read his latest newsletter on inJesus right now, you can subcribe to have it delivered to you for reading at your leisure time.

P.S. Thanks Richard!! You're doing a fantastic job! I took a look at your calendar... hope to see you on the 'dusty trail'!

End Times News Reports

I took a moment this morning to read some news clips, and it struck me that many news writers are using language such as 'like never before,' 'more than ever,' 'unprecedented' and every once in a while you will hear the 'biblical proportions' phrase. Hmmmm - just a few years ago (when I was a child) I would hear preachers (* and Grandma) talk about how the Bible would be fulfilled on the newspaper headlines... (and RSS feeders). Here's a few that caught my attention today.

Luke 21:11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.
Luke 21:26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

LEST WE ERR...

Friends,
Because I believe that Christians should uphold righteousness at every opportunity, I want to STRONGLY encourage you to visit Snopes.com to validate any of the politically charged messages that you consider forwarding. It is important that Christians not be perceived as gullible purveyors of information that is NOT TRUTH. I believe it is serious to have to choose our candidates wisely, and I believe that the People of God are going to have a wonderful opportunity to support righteousness. As I read Chris Brook's posting on a Prophetic Word, I am even more convinced that is so. I am attaching the MODIFIED text to accentuate the use of inflammatory rhetoric that many are going to use, but this is not a defense or railing against any candidate at all. Your choice is yours alone, and your convictions must be reflected in your choice. -RMaxT

Open Letter to my Co-Laborers: Brothers & Sisters in Christ

Well... 2008 is gonna be Great! ... coz it looks like many are going through some real crunch times... This is an open letter to all those who stop by this blog: http://rmaxtorres.com

----------------------------------------

I admire you guyz (also implies galz) for being willing to step up to so many responsibilities.

It's a little different from 30 years ago, there wasn't that many people who I could count on as fellow soldiers in the fight back then. It's important to me that you understand how intentionally I pray for you all, and your families. There are other urban youth workers that I speak with who are simultaneously going through similar struggles in the recent weeks. A significant number of them are in Houston, but there are others across the country. Please don't forget that our God is still on His throne and inclining His ear to hear His 'KIDS!'

I call you friends, but more importantly - I call you FAMILY. On the other side of this struggle is Strength and Peace. If it was easy, everyone else would be doing this. You're doing it because you are called. He who has called you has prepared you, protected you and will provide for you. I have learned by watching some Real Veteranos, like Rev. Severiano Menchaca, whose homegoing was December 21, 2007. His consistency, despite the adversity of being flooded and burned in different seasons of his life and ministry, was an example through his 99th year of life on this planet.

Know that you are not forgotten - EVER!! and if He cares for the flowers and the birds... He watches over you.

Amen y amen!
